At age 77, the Moscow Mule is arriving better late than never to the cocktail revival. With a foolproof template, the copper-clad Mule is a sipper for the creative and the bored alike.
Your first mule probably went a little something like this: vodka, ginger beer, lime. All wonderful things, but it leaves little to the imagination. Since 2014-ish, when mules made their resurgence, people got hooked. Mule menu offerings increased a whopping 60% in 2015. It appeared that the more we sipped, the more an ache bubbled up for a variation in the prime-time brunch cocktail. That’s when bartenders and mixologists around the nation realized there’s a lot left to the imagination with the Moscow Mule, and the expressions started flowing.
From bourbon based Kentucky mules to tequila filled Mexican mules, bars and at-home bars are teeming with a creative ideation or two. Some even dare to break free from the copper mug. So, if you’re bored with mules or stuck in a cocktail rut, check out one of these versions. They will have you mulin’ it over the entire summer.
