Halloween Tricks & Treats

Fake spider webs adorn trees and windows, and every corner holds the promise of pumpkin-spice something or other. It’s officially fall in Florida and Halloween is just days away. Maybe you’ll actually carve a pumpkin this year or maybe, you’ll just think about it and avoid the mess. The weather feels slightly cooler, although someone could’ve turned the AC down without telling you. And this year’s candy corn debate is just getting started. Are you a lover or a hater?

Halloween

All of this hubbub because Halloween is coming. Are you planning a party? We've put together a list of 5 tricks and 8 treats to take your Halloween party from slightly scary to wicked awesome. And if you're not planning a party? Pay close attention to the treats section--these bottles and 6-pack suggestions are great for hostess gifts too.

THE TRICKS

TRICK 1: PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD

You'll have sweets, of course, but adding a few savory dishes to balance out the menu is always a plus. Make dips that look like brains and burgers that resemble monsters (see Exhibit A). Adding a bit of personality to your food serves as an eye-catching, edible decoration your guests will love.

TRICK 2: PLAN YOUR DRINKS

Plan for about 3 drinks per person per hour. A 3-hour party for 15 will need about 5 bottles of wine, 24 beers and 1 bottle of liquor. You can revise based on what you know about your guests--if you know no one will drink wine, skip the Cabs and load up on more beer. Don’t forget something alcohol free and keep plenty of water on hand.

TRICK 3: SERVE 1 COCKTAIL

Your night will be less stressful if you limit the cocktail options to one signature sip. Try this Jäger Wicked Apple recipe or the easy Jack-O-Lantern, made with Jack Daniel's and sparkling wine. Both are surprisingly delicious and festive.

TRICK 4: GO ALL OUT

You get to go all out on Halloween, so don't hold back. Buy all the pumpkins, get serious about your costume, find themed cups, build a haunted house. Do whatever makes your nightmares--er, Halloween dreams--come true. The more decorations you have, the better.

TRICK 5: GET  YOUR SPIRITS DELIVERED

You're going to love this trick. While you finish browning the pigs-in-a-blanket and stringing jack-o-lantern lights, have your wines, spirits, beers, and mixers delivered to your door. This way, you'll have more time to fix your face paint. Visit ABCdelivers.com to start (and schedule) your order today!

THE TREATS

WINE

You can't go wrong with blood red wine on Halloween. Delight your guests with spooky wines with the perfect names, like Apothic Crush Red Blend or Carnivor Cabernet Sauvignon. Iconic for Halloween, Casillero del Diablo shows a deep red color with black cherry and milk chocolate flavors--it's sinfully delicious.

SPIRITS

Spirits with seasonal flavors are ideal for a festive, frightful party. Try Jack Daniel's Tennessee Fire over ice or mixed with a pint of hard apple cider. Or perhaps you're looking for something darker. Give Jägermeister a try. Mixed with fresh orange juice and ice, it's Jäger like you've never had before.

BEERS

Pick up a few seasonal beers to round out your offerings. If you're not into pumpkin beers, we have a myriad of bottles that are perfect for Halloween. Try Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Southern Tier Warlock or Unibroue Maudite.
