March in Florida means temperatures are tiptoeing into the 80s. It also means we’re already on the hunt for our next refreshing drink. But that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate National Mulled Wine Day.
In fact, we get the best of both worlds on this holiday: the warmth of the Florida sun and the feelings this cozy cocktail gives you. Crank up the AC if you have to. Just don’t miss the chance to make this spicy, tasty treat. After all, mulled wine might just be the best way to capture the final remnants of winter before we move into spring (also known as “summer” in Florida).

Heat wine, cider and brandy in a large pot over medium heat. In a separate pot, place cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and star anise. Heat and stir for about five minutes. Add spices to wine. Let cook for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally but do not let boil. When the honey is dissolved and the mixture is warm, it’s ready to serve!
Ladle wine into glass mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks, star anise, sliced oranges and cranberries. For added presentation at parties, add these garnishes to a punch bowl filled with your mulled wine.
