Have you ever been scrolling through Pinterest and come across a wine tap machine? We know, it’s like everything you’ve ever dreamed of, especially at the end of a long day.
We’re here to let you in on a little secret: We have those in our stores.
These wine tap stations exist in the wonderland of our stores known as the activity center at ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. It’s a perfect place to sip, swirl and savor wines and spirits before you decide what to buy. It’s our way of helping you make better decisions and get you closer to finding a new favorite faster than just taking the bottle home. It also means you’ll never have to wonder if that bottle is worth it because you’ll already know.
Alongside several other wines chosen by our highly-certified wine consultants, we feature new wines each month. August features three incredible vinos that are worth stopping by to try: La Cappuccina Sauvignon Blanc, Domaine Gueguen Borgogne Rosé and Urgency Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the best things about them is that they’re part of our Sourced & Certified collection. This special line of wines (and spirits) are purchased directly from the maker or distiller at a lower price to save you money. Every bottle in this collection is sourced and certified by an ABC team of wine and spirits experts that have been traveling the world for decades to find unique, quality products in a range of prices for our guests. Our team can go directly to the source for these products because of the strong relationships we've built with wine makers and distillers for more than 80 years. Learn more about the collection and how we find them here.
These particular bottles pair well with upcoming tailgates, girl’s night in, or even with lunch on a relaxing Saturday. Pick one or three, but make sure you don’t miss what’s on tap this month!
In Soave, Italy, just outside of Verona, sit the blissful vineyards of La Cappuccina Estate—run by three siblings who are in the third generation of winemakers: Pietro, Sisto and Elena Tessari.
Since 1890, the Tessari family has been producing wine at La Cappuccina Estate, but it has been since 1985 that the team encountered a problem with frost. In order to revive a vine, they decided to adopt organic production methods. “All chemical treatments have been banned in order to guarantee healthier, more natural products and greater respect for the environment,” the siblings explain. It contributed to the family’s overall quest for quality. This Sauvignon Blanc reflects that dedication. With an intense nose of peach, grapefruit, mint, sage and aromatic herbs, the palate follows suit with similar flavors and finishes with a zippy, citrus wave. We really like this wine while watching our favorite team during kick-off, but until football starts pair with weekday pasta dinner or white fish.
This 100% Pinot Noir dry rosé from Burgundy stunned our wine team with its vigor, harmony and expressive aromas and flavors. It boasts flavors of cherry, strawberry and peaches, with a lingering finish. This is a shining example of Burgundy rosé and is on par with the highest quality rosé wines from Provence and Corsica.
Domaine Gueguen is located in the village of Préhy, about 4 miles south west of Chablis. Céline and Frédéric Gueguen started their winery in 2013, but they both have 30 years of combined experience as winemakers for large and reputable Chablis estates (Maligny and Brocard) before setting up their own business. They have crafted spectacular wines from day one, with respect for the terroir and environment at the forefront. This combined with careful and precise vinification has resulted in some fantastic wines. Even though it sounds fancy, this rosé is well-suited to afternoons by the pool.
Urgency comes to us from Shannon Ridge, the Shannon Ridge Family of Wines in Lake County. Their story is centered around sustainable practices, since Lake County sits on some seriously pure and pristine land. Clay’s vineyards are at about a 2,200 feet elevation in the shadow of Mt. Konocti and looking down into Clear Lake (the largest freshwater lake wholly in California and the oldest lake in North America). In Lake County, the air is fresh and clean, the cleanest in California, and the vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate, hot summer days for ripening grapes, and cool evenings which helps the grapes retain a freshness and acidity. Even before the URGENCY vineyard was planted, Clay Shannon's instincts told him that the blend of volcanic soils would produce full, rich flavors and the long, warm summer days would ripen the grapes perfectly. This special piece of dirt creates wines that do not require long aging and the lush flavors show well upon their release. Urgency is surging with dark, luscious fruits integrated with French oak. The mid-palate shows pie spices followed by a lingering, structured finish. Do yourself a favor - find a great butcher who sells top-notch ribeye and wash it down with this dark beauty.
