Chomp into Shark Week with these great white wines

Posted by ABC Fine Wine & Spirits on July 22, 2018

In Shark Week, Shark Week 2018

There ain’t no party like a Shark Week party. For the past 30 years, Discovery Channel has baited the masses with one terrifying week

– whether it’s a cheesy episode of Megalodon: Fact vs. Fiction that terrifies or it’s genuine terror from watching the classic Air Jaws, Shark Week unites all walks of life over the fascination of sharks.

Sharks instantly become more fascinating when wine is involved. Below you’ll find a wine and snack pairing along with the program to watch with it. Just check out your local ABC Fine Wine & Spirits to pick up the sips. Oh, and be sure to invite your friends over. Not that you want a feeding frenzy, but it might be weird to eat all these snacks and drink all  these wines alone. Cheers to the Great White Shark!

Block 062Block 062 + Cheeseboard + Bear vs. Shark, Sunday, July 22 at 8 p.m. ET

Kick-off Shark Week with a killer pairing of our Block 062 Sauvignon Blanc and a fun cheeseboard. With aromatic notes of citrus and honeysuckle, flavors of sweet grapefruit, it will pair with almost any soft cheese and any mild cheese. Just please make sure you cut the cheese into one of three shapes: 1. A shark, 2. A boat, 3. Shark fins.

Cheeseboard tip: Adding fruit, fresh and dried, is always a great addition to a cheeseboard. Since we’re in the middle of summer, mandarins, cherries, apricots, strawberries, cantaloupe and blueberries will be at their freshest. You can never go wrong with candied lemons! Oh, and wrap some prosciutto around the cantaloupe (it’s to die for - to to dive for? Whatever, just add it to your sharky cheeseboard).

Aragosta-1Santa Maria Aragosta Vermentino + fish sticks + Great White Abyss, Monday, July 23 at 9 p.m. ET

What better way to indulge in breaded, baked fish and a lively Vermentino than to eat it while watching Great White Abyss? This lively, crisp white has a bouquet reminiscent of ripe apples and will keep you on your toes as you follow the team to the Galapagos to venture into Great White breeding grounds.

Sea Monster Eclectic White Blend + shark gummies + Air Jaws: The Hunted, Tuesday, July 24 at 10 p.m. ET

After a grueling day of work, kick-back with this investigative spin on the favorite Shark Week series, Air Jaws. The gummies are a jawesome pairing with this wine because of its flavors of tangerine, peach, honeysuckle and lychee that unite with the apple, mango and orange flavors in the gummies. Add them to popcorn for a sweet & salty spin or to your wine for a little sugar infusion.

723355Giorgi Aquastella Pinot Grigio + Ceviche + Sharkwrecked, Thursday, July 26 at 9 p.m. ET

While you watch two crazy people spend two days floating in open water with no food, water, sleep or protection from the surrounding sharks, sip this pretty Pinot Grigio. With a fine nose of orchard fruits and juicy strawberry on the palate, its crisp mid-palate and persistent finish will taste like a dream with fresh ceviche or sushi. It'll also remind you that you love wine way too much to ever put yourself in a situation like being stranded in the ocean with sharks for company.

257005Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling + lifesaver donuts + Return of the Mega Shark, Saturday, July 28 at 9 p.m. ET

The last days of Shark Week are always sad. So whip up some life saver donuts, pour a glass of delectable riesling and tune in to Return of the Mega Shark. The donuts are really easy to make - just pick up non-frosted, plain donuts, white frosting and red frosting. Frost the entire top of the donut with the white paint and then draw on red stripes with the red frosting, to look like a lifesaver.

The sweet wine has ample weight and juiciness, enough to handle the sugary donut. It boasts with delightful flavors of pineapple and peach that will wash down the donut with ease.
